London FI September Meetup: FOMO v FIRE
8th September 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

We hope you’ve all had a good summer and managed to spend some time with loved ones – whether in person or online.
Detractors of the FIRE movement often call out the need to live for the now, rather than save up for some future that you may not get to enjoy or that you can deal with when you get there.
How do you balance your long term goals of saving for the future, against the twin pressures of FOMO (the Fear of Missing Out) and YOLO (You Only Live Once)?
In this event, we want to hear your views on this key part of the journey to Financial Independence. Do you set aside a budget each year for fun and hobbies? If so, how do determine its size and what % of your annual spending is it? Do you manage to stick to it?
What did you do this summer and how did you balance the desire to chill and just let go, with your FIRE goals? What frugal travel and holiday tricks can you recommend? Any recommended destinations or holiday hacks?
Have you made sacrifices along the FIRE journey? Any regrets?
We’ll start by sharing some of the things we’ve adjusted over the years to significantly cut our holiday spending, while never reducing our enjoyment. We hope you’ll all be up for sharing your stories too!
