London FI November Meetup: Navigating your Mortgage – Q&A with a Broker
8th November 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
With mortgage rates rising sharply over the past few months, many homeowners are panicking. The average cost of fixed rate mortgages is above 6% for the first time since 2008, and the Bank of England has raised interest rates an incredible 7 times since last December.
After enjoying low interest rates for so long, it’s hard to imagine – let along prepare for – such dramatic changes. Combined with massive increases in energy and fuel costs and double digit inflation, many people are just trying to keep their heads above water, never mind aim for early retirement.
So is there a light at the end of the tunnel? What can you do as a homeowner, first time buyer, or buy to let investor when you need a mortgage?
In this month’s meetup, an experienced broker will walk us through the basics of mortgage finance and discuss the outlook for property in the coming months.
Arron Bardoe has worked in financial services since 1988; over the years he has trained around 500 mortgage advisers, developed 20 mortgage brokerages, and personally assisted us on a number of occasions. He’ll explain how the mortgage market works and answer questions from members, helping you understand your options and make the best decision.
We’ll cover a range of topics relating to property and mortgages, like:
- How can I get the best mortgage rate?
- Should I use a broker? If so, how do I choose a good one?
- Is this a good time to buy property, or should I be renting instead?
- What are my options if I can’t make my mortgage payments?
- What should I do if my fixed-rate mortgage is expiring 6 – 12 months from now?
- Should I pay off my mortgage as quickly as possible, or invest any spare cash?
As always, the tips and suggestions that come up in the discussion (either from the hosts or participants) are for educational purposes and should not be taken as financial advice. We all have different goals and circumstances, and the best solution for one person will not necessarily be appropriate for someone else.
This is a live, interactive session, so please enable your webcam and microphone and be prepared to get involved in the discussion.
The meeting room will be open 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time – the URL is available when you RSVP to the event.
If you’re asked for a password in Zoom, type “FIRE”.
You can also join the conversation in our Facebook group.
See you there!
